We hurried home...

from Provo to see if we could help Jake & Steph.  They'd had a "rough" Thursday night.

The night Jake was supposed to get a good night's sleep...to be well rested for his GMAT test on Friday.  Ethnie decided to make life more exciting and had a seizure-like episode and  briefly stopped breathing, turned blue and then continued with labored breathing. This ended up with the Paramedics visiting at 4:00 am.

Of course, by the time they arrived the episode had passed and she seemed to be a normal newborn with just very nervous first-time parents.

But Ethnie decided to keep her poor parents on edge by being overly lethargic even for a new-born.  I arrived home from Provo just in time to dump Karl on the curb and meet Steph and Ethnie at a 4:30 Dr. appointment. (Jake of course had to go to work to support this new little person and then take the GMAT at 4:00 to try to support this new little person even better in the future.)

By now, Ethnie's 9 hours of un-responsive sleepiness had passed and she did indeed appear to be a very healthy newborn. So we expected this Dr. appointment to be  just a quick check-up and some reassurance that all was well and to be home in a couple of hours.  WRONG!
Doctors take things like this very seriously with these very little people.  So just to be safe, we were sent directly to the ER for blood work, urinalysis and a spinal tap...poor little thing...poor mommy.   And to be admitted.  Admitted...I'm thinking  oh that's just the terminology they use in the ER to mean we'll be there for a few hours.  WRONG!

Admitted means confined to a small room for 3 days while they administer antibiotics and grow cultures...just in case this healthy, pink, happy, well-eating, good pooping,  little person has something that they can't detect.   Of course Jake was taking the GMAT while all this was happening and then arrived home to an empty house wondering where his little family was.

Well, I guess I'm glad the Doctors are taking it seriously.  We are grateful that Ethnie is acting happy and healthy and has shown no other symptoms.  She doesn't seem to mind her confinement.  Mommy and Daddy...they seem to be tolerating it well in spite of spotty uncomfortable sleep and some very salty hospital food.
And Daddy...he'll be taking his GMAT again.

Gramma & Grampa...we're just trying to help out, fill in and keep company where ever and when ever we can...and we bring food.

So sad that little Ethnie is going through all this. Lots of thoughts and prayers to the new parents and our precious little niece.

Kyle told me about this from the call last night. Thank goodness you were there to help out. What a nice and relaxing intro to parenthood for those two! I am so glad things look ok for now, and hopefully they will remain that way
