Karl and another Chili Cook-off

Karl has aspirations of winning a chili cook-off.  In September he placed at the ward cook-off with the hottest.  But that wasn't a true win to him...even though that was what he was aiming for.   He likes the burn.  And that's where we differ. To him...the hotter the better.  He likes it to hit the mouth blazing.  Me...I like to be able to taste the subtle flavors followed by the mild spicy after burn.
But the truth is...you've got to second guess your judging audience. That's what we've been doing to this pot of beans for the past couple days. (yes...we like beans in our chili.)

Today is the Chili Cook-off at Karl's work.

Now for the ward cook-off...I made the Chili...Karl did the final "seasoning" job.   For this work cook-off I told him since he was going to claim all the glory he had to do all the work.  Now when it comes to chili and dutch oven-cooking my man thinks he should be like Martha Stewart...have a staff to do all the work...then give it a few final touches and stamp of approval  and swoop in at the camera shoot to take the credit.  After a little initial whining he dove into his project.   He did want me to stay in the kitchen for consultation and lost ingredients locating.  But I went to bed early and left him with his own clean-up.  He always does a good job at that.

Early this morning (after a day in the refrigerator letting the flavors meld)   his staff kick into gear...heated the chili...ran samples to him while he was shaving...and added the additional seasonings (almost) to his specifications...poured the final product into the crockpot...sent him on his way with best wishes.

It's a mighty good pot of Chili.  But the competition is tough... two other ward members that also make a mean pot of chili. and a lady that's touting a chili with chocolate.

I'm finally home

from almost three weeks at Chad and Janet's Florida Paradise home and  soon to be headed to their new Boston home for a week.  We are  excited for this new adventure that is ahead of them.   And we're really looking forward to exploring historic Boston and the northeast.   But maybe next trip.
This trip is to help get their boxes unpacked and Janet's new nest organized to her liking. (And to kiss and hug those cute grandkids)

So far the logistics of this move have fallen into place amazing well...at least from my prospective.  Chad and Janet...they're  stressssssssed! Ahhhh...the joys of moving.    Now we are praying for good weather in Boston the day they need to unload the truck.

Violet's ready for the Boston snow!

We are slowly making progress

 ...sorting and  packing boxes.
Some boxes are self-packing.

Poor Janet
...today she had to sort and reduced her stash of baby and toddler clothes
...it was hard on her.

The party's over

...the guests have gone home and now the work really begins.

Packing for the move to Boston.

Today Janet sorted books, baby clothes, picture frames and the craft closet.  I toted goodwill donations and trash  out... empty boxes in...in between laundry  load and Violet duty.

We accomplished so much...why does it look like we didn't do a thing?!

Tonight I tucked Violet in to bed...numerous times.  We read books, sang songs, snuggled...and gave a few gentle threats.  We started the process at 8:30 and Violet was finally snoozing peacefully at 11:00 pm...in the middle of her bedroom floor...with me right beside her...also snoozing.  All in all it was a smooth and tearless tuck-in...it just took a very long time to accomplish the deed...the price you pay when she has a good nap during the day.

Just horsing around

On our final day together we walked over to Chad and Janet's
neighbor so Charlie and Violet could see the horses
...it turned into a working vacation for them.

Good-bye Joanne and my horsey friends.

Our Florida New Year.

Wow...what a past month it has been since my last post.   An amazing amount of Tobler fun.   It was the Tobler Christmas this year and we really took it to the max!
Today is our last day of Tobler fun in Florida before everyone returns home.  Then I'm staying on at the Chad House to help pack up all their earthly possessions for their move to Boston!

Here's a photo wrap up of our past week here.

Blessing little Lucia.
