August 27th Trip to St. George

Wednesday I had a fun trip to St. George with Kaye (SIL) . We saw "Big River" at the Tuachan that evening. A wonderful production about Huck Finn. The music..amazing. I didn't want it to end. Thursday we traveled through Santa Clara on our way home over Utah Hill.There's a historic little place honoring the first settlers of Santa Clara.
Jakob Tobler has a plaque there. It shows his four wives. We came through William... first photo in the third column. Jakob Tobler changed the spell of his name to Jacob sometime after he arrived from Switzerland. This is the back of the Relief Society house.

Then we stopped at Frei's Fruit Stand...that was worth the whole trip there!

Kaye is enjoying the smell of all the fruit.

I arrived home with fresh corn, peaches, onions, pears and a green river watermelon.

The Corn Fest, Enterprise, Utah

Saturday was spent in Enterprise, Utah where Karl's band was playing. This is their third year of entertaining at the Cornfest. They really enjoy playing at those small town festivals.

Arizona fun

We're having a great time with Clark and Rachel. First we went to see their new house. (See their blog for pictures of the inside. It's going to be a great place for them.

Then we drove up to Tortilla Flats. A hundred years ago it was stage coach stop. A fun place to explore. The women restroom was the best...but I will post those interesting photos later.

And there's water up in those there mountains. Canyon Lake.
Then we found another ghost town to explore.

We finished up with dinner at Pita Jungle...so good!


Saturday was shopping, sewing, napping and swimming...ahhhh....the good life.

All while Clark was at work.

Happy 33rd Anniversary to us!
Wow...33 years! We don't feel as old as that sounds.
Maybe because it been a wonderful 33 years.

What's been keeping my stress level elevated lately?

Making two bridesmaid dresses!

I was asked if I could sew these dresses before our Florida trip. I told them I couldn't even start until after girl's camp and that would give me a month. Easy enough. But then the bridesmaids had girls camp...delayed fitting the muslins a week.

Now I don't like marathon sewing...I make too many mistakes. And I like to keep up my daily routines , exercise, cleaning (never spend to much time doing that one) and laundry. And I don't get much sewing done if Karl's home...time to do projects together or just have fun. I can't sew on Sunday or Monday...I work a long day a Monday. And I had to work sewing in between meetings...I only had 7 extra meetings in the past 3 weeks.
So this is where I've spent any spare moments.

And yesterday I finished two of these (plus hemming the mother of the bride dress, a sash for the flower girl and a clip gizmo to cinch in the temple dress)...with two days to spare before the wedding! ahhhh....life is good. Now to get ready to go to Arizona at 5 am tomorrow.

Escaping Vegas

Hiking...It's a great way to get out of the heat and the city. So Friday afternoon we seized the moment and headed up to Mt. Charleston.

Hikes & Legends

Friday Karl got tired of work and came home early so we dashed up Lee Canyon to go on a hike.
I have to admit that is one thing I like about Las Vegas...30-45 minutes from our front door to the mountains and some nice hiking.
It was so nice to get out of the heat and busyness of Vegas (109° at home /76° on the mtn.) . This hike is now my new favorite Mt. Charleston hike... a beautiful 6 mile loop. But every one we go on becomes my new favorite. Of course, We did missed having any of the kids to hike with. Hiking with the boys, their wives and little Charlie are some of our best memories.

August 2, 2008
Saturday one of Elder Jake's favorite mission companions, Ryan Duke, came by to meet Mom & Dad Tobler. It was fun to hear mission stories that don't get written home about. He also wanted to see if all the Tobler legends that Jake had told him about were true. Most of them were....except the garden hose one!

Of course Jake had told him about the Tobler Ice cream smorgasbord complete with the infamous bottle of "jimmies". So of course we had to indulge.

Who knew those rainbow colored candy sprinkles were call "jimmies" until I found a bottle of them at the "day-old bakery" in Pasco years ago. Somehow that same old bottle would magically refill. They were Clark's friend, Joel's favorite item on the Ice cream smorgasbord and they then became another part of the Tobler legends.
