Our Saturday's adventure

 ...in Pahrump, NV.

This was the 3rd year that Karl's Bluegrass band has played at this little bluegrass festival in Pahrump
And every year the weather has been somewhat miserable.
Knowing that this year wasn't going to be any different and that Karl's band didn't play until 3pm...we took our time getting there.   Upon arrival the weather wasn't too bad...almost nice.

with the exception of an occasional  dust devil blowing through.

But as soon as Aspen Ridge got on stage the "mother nature" got cranky...cold and windy...then it started to rain.   And with all that sound equipment...the party moved into the VFW hall suddenly and quickly

(Cold wind & rain...or cigarette smoke...Hmmmm which is better?)
 But no matter the weather
Birds of a feather...flock together.
and if they are playin' music Karl has a good time.

Tobler texting...

Clark & Rach... this is what you're missing since you moved to Australia and no longer have your U.S. cell phones.

Tobler texting comedy...
Chad:
Potty training gone wrong:
After chasing down and apprehending a diaperless Violet, she peed on Janet as a self-defense/escape tactic :/

Jeff:  Like a reptile or something?
Chad:  Exactly.  More evidence that she belongs in the wild.   We call her Mogley...

Trace:  Ha ha.   Janet must have been wild as a baby.  Where else would Violeta  gotten it from
Chad:  Lamanite blood from Janet's latino heritage.

Jeff:  I'll have to try that tactic next time Amy tries to get me to do something I don't want to do
Chad:  Good luck w/ that one...

Joseph:  what?  you're not going to send my comment out to everybody and their brother?
Chad: Hey I only have 2000 txts/mo.  I have 2 be choosy.

We are still laughing.

Red Rock Canyon Hike # 5

In spite of the weather warning:

ALERTS for Clark County

Severe weather alert : High Wind Warning

A HIGH WIND WARNING IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 12:00AM PDT FRIDAY, APRIL 08

...Steph and I  went hiking
Our thoughts were:
  • the weather is nice now...just a breeze....maybe we will miss the bad stuff.
  •  We will probably be hiking in a canyon or gully we won't even notice.
  • Weatherman lie.
We were wrong.  It was windy.

VERY WINDY!
 First off my watch breaks
(eagle-eye Steph finds the pin in the dirt!)

...note we started hiking at 11:15 am.
This week we decide to hike to the Calico Tanks.
It was beautiful from the start.

Stone stairways ..must be on the right trail.
.
Trying to get a picture of us together

...the wind kept blowing the camera off  it's perch.

Mission accomplished...thank you fellow hiker.
The Tanks
Note the windcaps/waves!
Amazing view of Babylon...I mean Vegas:)
Out of the wind.
Just enjoying the windless view

Hmmm...these were at the top.  Makes ya' wonder...
Sometimes Steph and I have differing opinions
on the best routes to take.

The End!
P.S.It was the best Red Rock hike yet...minus the wind.

General Conference Sunday

...is truly the day of rest.   We love it.

Ours went like this...
  • Waffle breakfast while watching the morning session
  • Watched LDS World Reports and some of the Joseph Smith movie.
  • Jake and Steph's taxes completed
  • (okay that may not have been so restful...but it made both Jake and Karl happy)
  • Afternoon session of conference

               ..interspersed with brief dozing.

  •  Yummy dinner with Rosanne [the neighbor] joining us.
BBQ pork, dutch oven tators, coleslaw and rolls,  topped off with a not-so-perfect  (but oh-so-good) chocolate cake.
The conversation centered on how the  Tobler family only got to eat the "ugly" rolls, cookies and other treats because the pretty ones were always for somebody else.
  • Partyline with the brothers (minus Australia dwelling Clark)
  • Played Cashflow
Awwww.....what a wonderful day.

I wonder...

what the people think when they drive by at night

and see the headless form at the window.

Sunday... the day of rest

So after our Sabbath day busyness (BYC, the 3 hour block, prep for the up-coming youth conference and  Home Teaching) our day melted into a more relaxing state with Jake and Steph.

Jake made cookies...from a jar
(A Valentine gift from my Visiting Teachers)

The instructions said it would make 2 dozen.

Jake got 8.
Could that be because he made "gimormous" cookies
or because we ate a lot of cookie dough
[ahhh...the gooey yumminess]!
A cookie induced nap...before bedtime.

Spring in our backyard

 Our little patch of tulips
 Apricots
 Lemon thyme
 Potted Pansies
Patiently waiting for a space to be planted
 Roses are about to burst
Broccoli giving a plentiful harvest
Our mini farm...in a mini yard.

Jessie...

is finished and ready to party.

Braving the Boulder

Steph and I are really lovin' our Thursday hikes!   So much so Steph invested in real hiking shoes and we both  bought ourselves new back packs...the "camel back" kind.
We must be serious...(or just needed an excuse to go shopping).

This last Thursday Jake was out of school for his Spring break...so we enticed him to come along with the promise of a "Subway" lunch.

Then we decide that this was the week to go "bouldering"  since we'd have Jake along to "rescue" us  from any precarious situations that we may get ourselves in.

So off we hiked.

It didn't take long for us to realize the fallacy in our thinking
when found ourselves "left behind".

Our challenge... just to keep him in sight and then figure out how to get to where he was
...before he disappeared.
 We finally caught up.
Then we offered him lunch.
A full tummy must have slowed him down cuz' from then on
he stayed with us.

He even gave us a little extra help when we needed it.

...holding up the big rocks  so we could get through.

Now Steph...she's part monkey and part mountain goat.  And now that she's got her new shoes she thinks she can go anywhere.
Even Jake had to risk his life to keep up with her.

Now me...

I was a little reluctant to follow

 but I did...to some places.

and other places
...no way!

 An amazing fun day.
