Hiking Fletcher Canyon

 It was a 4 day weekend for us and no family near to celebrate with. 

 But with Karl's date with his radiation treatments we couldn't go far

 ...so we made the best of it. 

We started the weekend with an early morning hike up Fletcher Canyon.

 Karl was hiking with his new hydration pack and it was my second hike with my trekking poles.   Of course I shared one of the poles with Karl.   Love them!  So we ordered Karl his own set.

 I've hiked this trail numerous time but didn't realize I had never made it to the end. 

 The best part is the last 1000 ft.  Beautiful.

But we still had to hurry back for Karl's radiation date.

After getting zapped we tried out a new Mexican Restaurant  that was highly recommend by several people...our expectations must have been too high...we were disappointed...too much $ for a okay Mexican food.   Check that one off our list.

The Tobler Sibling Reuion in Paragoonah

We love going to Paragonah. Hanging out with Clare and Kaye is always so fun
 but Paragonah is just so relaxing and peaceful.

We are going to miss the little people.

34 Years ago today

...Jeffrey Wayne Tobler was born.  (I wanted to use Karl"s middle name and have it be Jeffrey Blaine...but Karl didn't like his middle name and didn't want to saddle any of his boys with it...but Wayne had the same "ring" to it and Karl was okay with that.)

Jeff was very anxious to get into this world.  After 2 short hours of easy labor and he was born on the gurney just inside the doors of the  delivery room.     I remember the nurses say "don't push!" and replying "I'm not".    

The nurses were hurrying Karl to get gowned up so he wouldn't miss the delivery and he came walking into the delivery room with the surgical cap tied under his chin like a baby bonnet.  I was so embarrassed. (who could believe I my husband was a "hunk of gorgeous manhood" with a bow tied under his chin.

Seconds later Jeff was delivered/caught  by a nurse.

When I was in labor with Clark 3 years later we told the nurse that I had the last baby very quickly and the nurse delivered him on the gurney.  She smiled "I remember...I was the nurse".

Jeff was beautiful and looked like he had just had a haircut for the occasion...a perfect missionary haircut.
Then nurses confessed that they didn't bring him to my room as often as they could have because they liked cuddle and coo him in the nursery.

Jeff was a very easy going baby that seldom cried.   I would often set a timer to remind me to feed him. He just wasn't a complainer...except at Jera's house...then he was fussy.  One time when he was inconsolable Jera nursed him.    So was always said he has a little Shoemake in him.

 So what did you pick for your birthday dessert this year?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our little Jeff.

Hiking with the Cubs

We took the Cubs Scout up the Fletcher Canyon Trail Saturday morning.

 

It was the easiest hike on Mt. Charleston that gave the cubs close to the required 3 miles.  It was our pack meeting so families were invited...but we lost most of the parents and leaders on the trail. All our Cubbies made it.  Fun hike with a great little pack of hikes.

Kudos to Karl,  who stayed home with the little people while Steph went to work and I hiked. He survived the ordeal...but just barely.

Cookies & Milk

 It's become a nightly ritual.

 Pa loves having someone to share his indulgences with.

And they both are partial to certain package of cookies.

Little man

          ...just grew up.

Steph mentioned several times that Little Duke Manfred needed a hair cut.  So while Steph was at work  Karl and I had a few minutes before nap time so we decided to cut his hair.

(Now this wasn't his first haircut)

Loving these little people. They are so cute and entertaining.

And wishing that we could spend this kind of time with all our far-away  little people.
